Thesis work / Sketches

Above is my senior thesis work from the first semester, all tacked up and ready for critique. Rachel Salomon and Joe Hart gave me some really good, useful feedback. I'm looking forward to new things next semester.

Below - a couple sketchbook pages, from the light rail en route to the airport, and my brother playing piano. Been drawing plenty this break - though my scanning situation is a bit tricky. Might have to deal with bad iphone photos until the middle of January.

Akira Kurosawa's Dreams

For Ted McGraths sketchbook class - we were assigned to make a film poster using elements and ideas from our sketchbook. This image is based on the first vignette from one of my favorite movies, Kurosawa's Dreams.

Skelegrow / Life drawings

This first piece is an entry for a Harry Potter zine my friend Alyssa Nassner is putting together.  Look for it at MICA's Art Market in December.  The second is a couple poses from last night's life drawing session.

Some stuff

Here's a little sketchbook spread.
And here are a couple progress shots of a painting I've been working on for a while now.  It's still in a pretty amorphous state and could end up looking nothing like this.

Quick things

Here are a couple quick things, the first combining little elements from my sketchbook together digitally, and the second being a mixed-media experiment for Ted McGrath's sketchbook class.

MICA's Halloween Party

Poster design for MICA's annual Halloween party! This year's theme is sci fi, and this unfortunate astro-traveler ran into some brainwarping space jellies.

Bloggin'

Heyo - here are a couple things I submitted for SILA's Illustration West competition.  Choosing was ridiculously stressful for me, but I think I'm happy with these selections.

These next two images are a couple spreads done for my sketchbook class - part of an ongoing narrative assignment "Ezekiel vs Timecube"

Senior year is going well.  I'm working a lot and liking it.  More soon!

Post

Hello, blog.  I'm sorry I neglect you, it's just that I've been so distracted.  I hope your feelings aren't hurt, little bloggy.  I will post some drawings to try to make it up to you.

So, it's my last year here at MICA.  I've been spending most of my time in the senior illustration studios - been working hard on some sketchbook experiments.  Here are a few of my favorites of the recent batch.  I'm working in a great sketchbook hand-made by the wonderfulJulia Kostreva.  More images from this book are up on my flickr page.

More coming soon!

Flying Lotus

This is a little doodle of Los Angeles based ambient/hip hop DJ Flying Lotus, a quick little piece and my final homework assignment of the semester.  Summer, here I come!

Arve Henriksen of Supersilent

This is a drawing of the Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, most famous for being part of the free-improv group Supersilent (another one of my favorite bands).  This one was really fun to do; trying to keep in the spirit of the music I chose to keep everything pretty loose and improvisational, mixing acrylic, powdered graphite, pencil and digital collage.

Gosh I am the worst blogger of all time!
But I don't think I have any readers so that's okay.

Here's something from my sketchbook
