Engines (Panorama)

This little sliver above is a 27.5 foot long drawing, composed of 30 11x14 sumi ink drawings I did earlier this semester. The full (very, very long) view is up as a new section on my website. Give it some time to load, it's about 14,000 pixels wide.

Some of you may remember these drawings from a little while back - I was posting them as my "make something cool everyday" entries for a while, but since I ultimately planned to present them in this panorama, they seemed kinda dinky as just single panels. After a long wait, though, the full view is finally here!

The following three images are details from the spread

SWAG

I received my portfolio book in the mail today, and my business cards yesterday and am quite happy with the results. I used blurb.com to have the portfolio book produced and gotprint.com for the postcard and business card. I have a feeling they'll be getting more of my business.

Here are some pages from the book -

Postcards + Doodle

I got me some postcards! If you're a MICA student you can grab these from the illustration department office. There's a little stack of them in the postcard rack right now - I'll refill when necessary.

Also: here's a quick pencil/wax crayon doodle. I haven't had as much time to draw as I'd like lately, but I'll be getting back to it soon - there are some fun projects on the horizon.

Earth Spider Triptych

WHEW! This one took me forever, and it was at times a very rocky, frustrating process, but I'm really happy with the result. In this scene, two palace guards are so absorbed in their game of Go that they fail to notice the Earth Spider looming behind them, summoning a crowd of demons.

This will be the last piece in my Japanese folklore series, and the last thing I do for senior thesis. Weird! I'm looking forward to making new work as a non-student. Graduation, here I come.

Get Real, Jelly Bean

I've always written little notes to myself in my sketchbooks - recently I've become interested in allowing them to play a slightly larger role in the image itself. Exciting things start to happen when I forget about the reason I actually wrote down the note and start to see it as part of my drawing.
